Fellowships

The Yang Tan Collective is host to a talented community of exceptional fellows who represent the next generation of leaders in science and engineering. To be considered for any of the Yang Tan Collective fellowships, prospective fellows should submit a single PDF file containing a curriculum vitae and a two-page research plan for the fellowship or otherwise specified for that particular fellowship.

J. Douglas Tan Postdoctoral Fellowships
In honor of J. Douglas Tan, these fellowships support postdocs for up to two years of research specific to autism. Researchers must have an appointment with a McGovern faculty member. Postdocs must be no more than three years out from earning their PhD.

Y. Eva Tan Fellowships
In honor of Y. Eva Tan, these fellowships support either grad students or postdocs with up to two years of research specific to molecular therapeutics. Researchers must have an appointment with a McGovern faculty member. Postdocs must be no more than three years out from earning their PhD.

K. Lisa Yang Brain-Body Fellowships
These fellowships support up to two years of funding for either postdocs or graduate students focused on exploring the neurobiological connections between the brain and another bodily organ or system.

Students and postdocs working in any unit or department at MIT are eligible, however candidates in labs already receiving research or fellowship support from the Yang Brain-Body Center are not eligible to apply. Postdocs must be no more than three years out from earning their PhD.

K. Lisa Yang ICoN Postdoctoral Fellows
The K. Lisa Yang ICoN joint-lab postdoctoral fellowship is open to applicants interested in exploring mechanistic models that connect across levels from molecules to cells to circuits to behavior. Applicants must be mentored by two MIT faculty members, one computational and one experimental. At least one faculty member must be a full or associate member of the McGovern Institute.

K. Lisa Yang Bionics Fellows
These fellowships support graduate students and postdoctoral fellows focused on exploring transformational bionic interventions across a broad range of conditions affecting the body and mind. To be considered for a fellowship, please submit your CV and a letter of interest by June 1, 2026 to Jill Crittenden at jrc (at) mit (dot) edu.

K. Lisa Yang Global Engineering and Research (GEAR) Fellows
These fellowships support postdocs those who wish to research the challenges and associated scientific knowledge gaps in resource-constrained communities, then address them through academic innovation to create and translate transformative technologies.
